I used to have an Etsy Shop called Gasworks Park. It was shut down because one car company did not want me drawing their cars. The shutting down of the shop was an automated process with no one to talk to. The car company hires a law firm to use AI to scour Etsy images. If any images looks like one of their cars, the law firm sends a trademark infringement claim to Etsy. Etsy is responsible for the content on their site so Etsy does not question the claim. I wouldn’t be surprised if from beginning to end no human oversaw the process.
The shop, in this case, my shop, is guilty before proven innocent. And, it would cost thousands of dollars to prove one’s innocence. I write this to let anyone who reads this be aware of the many angles illustrators face a continually diminishing value of their hard work.
